Skincare Tips for All The Seasons

I learned early on that my skin needs different care during different seasons. So I thought I’d share my general tips and tricks for skincare that you can implement throughout the seasons.

  1. The one thing that never changes in my routine is water.

Water is the foundation of good skincare. Your skin is the largest organ in your body and making sure it’s hydrated properly helps it to function so much better.
Hydration starts from the inside out.  I know during the winter season, it is harder for me to drink the recommended half of my body weight in ounces. Also, drinking water becomes very boring and monotonous. To tackle this, I have switched from drinking cold water to room temperature water with lemon and adding more teas. This helps me stick to that number.

2. Vitamins are extremely important for skincare.

First of all, make sure you’ve got yourself a good multivitamin that contains Vitamin A, C, D, E, and K.

As well as consuming those vitamins, there are a lot of skincare products that contain these vitamins too.

The benefits of Vitamin A are essential for collagen production and decreasing fine lines.

Vitamin C is a super vitamin. It’s considered the superfood of vitamins because of its antioxidant properties, smoothes out uneven skin tones, acne scars, and is a proven skin brightener.

Vitamin D fights signs of aging, dry skin and smooths out the appearance of your skin.

Vitamin E is the superstar of vitamins as it’s another antioxidant. It’s found naturally in your body. Vitamin E is popular, you’ll notice it’s already in a lot of skin products. Some of the benefits are that it detoxifies, moisturizes, and plumps up the skin.

Vitamin K is another superfood for your skin. Packed full of nutrients to feed and hydrate your skin, It’s also responsible for repairing which helps with the health of your skin. You can find this vitamin naturally in green leafy greens and vegetables. So be sure to get your veggies in!

3. Lastly, combat dry skin!

My skin is much drier in the winter months. I live in an older New York City apartment and we get a lot of heat that can affect my skin, in any season.

This means that the rooms in my apartment are a lot drier so I keep the windows open a smidge. Having the air circulating helps to bring moisture into the apartment.

I also run the humidifier. There are different types of humidifiers. I use the Homech Top Fill Humidifier. It’s compact and holds up to 4 Liters of water. There is a timer for auto ON & OFF. The most important feature is how quietly it runs. I am a light sleeper and there is nothing worse than being woken up by a noisy appliance.

In addition  I look for products that are heavier and hydrating. 1) I clean my face with an oil cleanser which provides additional hydration. 2) After I wash my face, I spray on a hydrating toner and pat it into my skin. 3)Then, I apply a vitamin C serum and let that dry. 4) I next add a few drops of vegetable squalene (for additional moisture), rich hydrating day cream, and 5) the final step is an SPF 25. This helps keep my skin fresh and hydrated!

I hope you find this approach helpful. Tell me about your approach to skincare.

THE F WORD

I think we all can agree that 2020 was one hell of a year.

There are a lot of F words that I can think of to describe 2020…

Between the global pandemic (lockdown, lack of PPE, distance learning, toilet paper gate, massive death toll, excessive handwashing, the list goes on…) to the senseless killings of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Rayshard Brooks, Daniel Prude, Atatiana Jefferson, Stephon Clark to name a few.
