As I spoke about in my most recent post, I’m all about feeding my skin with hydrating water and delicious fruit and vegetables, but that’s only just the beginning.
The key to having good skin is following a routine and using products that work with your skin.
Here are 3 of my skincare secrets:
- Go for clean skin products
It’s super important to monitor what goes on your skin as well as inside your body!
Years ago, when I learned about parabens in skincare products and parabens found in cancer cells, I made the conscious decision to go clean.
I look for products that do not contain parabens, phthalates, mineral oils, and triclosan (to name a few). I also like products that don’t test on animals. Not all clean skincare products are created equally. It’s important to test and see what works for your skin type.

2. Know your skin type
I use products that compliment my skin type. I have an oily TZone. I also don’t have large pores.

My skin is not sensitive and I rarely break out. But this does not mean that I can use every product. Whenever I start a new product, I do a patch test. I will use the product on one area of my face for about three days. I notice how my skin reacts in those three days. I recall using a new skincare product and within a day my skin broke out in tiny itchy bumps. I discontinued using it and returned the product.
One of my favorite stores is Sephora. You can ask for samples of products without the huge financial commitment of buying a full-sized product. Even though their return policy is amazing, who wants that hassle of having to return a product?

3. Have a daily/nightly routine
Routine is key to everything in life.
A) In the morning I wash my face with Epi Logic’s True Calm cleanser. This gel cleanser is fantastic. It does not dry out my skin and leaves my skin clean.

B) I use a separate hand towel that is only for my face. I was taught that a towel that I use for my backside should not be used on my face. Towels can carry germs and we don’t want to put those germs on our faces.

C) After I dry my face, I apply Kiehl’s Avocado Creamy Eye Treatment. A little goes a long way. I dab my pointer finger and rub them together to soften the cream. Be gentle when you apply a cream to your under eyes. The skin under your eyes is very delicate. I pat the area under my eyes and my eyelids until all of the product is absorbed.

D) I follow up with Heritage Store Rose Petals Rosewater Facial Toner. A couple of spritzes on my damp skin does the trick! I gently pat the toner on my skin.
E) I then apply Olehenriksen’s Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum. Vitamin C serum brightens, helps with hyperpigmentation, reduces fine lines, and helps firm skin.

F) I finish up with Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Smoothing Cream. It’s perfect for those who need a dose of moisture!

My nighttime routine is slightly different…
Instead of using the Shiseido cream, I use Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate Face Oil.

I also follow up with Gua Sha.
