Facial of the Month: Manuka Honey and Turmeric Mask

Making facials is something that I have been doing for years.

This is how I started my love for skincare. I love to make facials with three ingredients or less.

There are tons of facial recipes that require many ingredients. I find that if I have to shop for ingredients I often forget to buy something. It’s convenient to be able to use products that I already have in my pantry. And sustainable!

This month’s facial is one of my all-time favorites…

Manuka Honey and Turmeric.

For me, Spring is a time to awaken what was dormant all Winter.

In the Winter we spend more days indoors and not as much time in the sun.

For me, a self-proclaimed sun goddess, my skin thrives in the sun and there is no greater feeling for me than the warmth of the sun kissing my skin. The lack of sun-worshiping during the winter leaves my skin a lot paler. I am not one for self-tanners or tanning beds. I am either for the real thing or nothing at all.

If you have not heard of Manuka honey, where have you been?

Seriously!

Honey, let me tell you, Manuka honey is not your regular stuff, it is the champagne of honey.

Some of the benefits of Manuka honey:

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-bacterial
  • Anti-microbial
  • Promotes skin healing
  • Digestive benefits
  • Treatment of burns and acne

These are only a few benefits of this magnificent honey. I have to warn you though, Manuka honey is pricey. I did say it was the champagne of honey.

The price ranges between $20-$40. I found a bottle on the shelf of TJ Maxx for $20. I snatched it up because my first bottle was $40!

Ok enough gushing about Manuka honey…

 Turmeric is also a fabulous herb and has a ton of health benefits as well.

This herb is highly pigmented, it has a bright yellow color. This spice is found in many Asian dishes.

Some benefits include:

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antioxidant properties
  • Wound healing
  • Digestive problems

Can you see now why I chose Turmeric? Its bright yellow color helps to brighten dull winter skin.

Ok, now onto the facial recipe. Always cleanse your skin before facials.

~~~
Ingredients:
  • One teaspoon of Manuka Honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Turmeric
Method:
In a small bowl, mix ingredients.
Be careful when mixing the turmeric powder. Tumeric can stain hands, clothes, countertop, you get the gist. Also, make sure that you wear a shirt or towel that you won’t mind if it gets stained.
Apply the mask either with clean hands or a small fan paintbrush. Apply all over the face (avoid the under-eye area). Leave on your skin for 10-15 minutes.
You can leave on longer but be mindful that the honey will melt from the heat of your skin.
Use warm water and a washcloth (again use a cloth you don’t mind getting stained) to remove the mask.
Make sure to remove it completely. Wash, dry, and don’t forget to moisturize your skin as you normally would.
Enjoy your glowy, dewy skin!
Don’t forget to let me know how this mask worked for you!
THE F WORD
I think we all can agree that 2020 was one hell of a year.
There are a lot of F words that I can think of to describe 2020…
Between the global pandemic (lockdown, lack of PPE, distance learning, toilet paper gate, massive death toll, excessive handwashing, the list goes on…) to the senseless killings of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Rayshard Brooks, Daniel Prude, Atatiana Jefferson, Stephon Clark to name a few.
